First Annual Celebrity Mercury Art Contest

The first Port of Astoria-Mercury Cruise Ship Art Contest received 107 submissions. Winners were treated to lunch aboard the Mercury, a tour of the ship and a bag of goodies to commemorate their time on board. The winners were selected by the captain and officers of the Mercury. Runner-up winners received a bag of goodies collected from the ship as well as from around the county. Runner-up prizes included a Portland Trail Blazers Team Yearbook and playing cards from the Seaside Chamber of Commerce; 3 passes to the Columbia River Maritime Museum; a family pass to the Seaside Aquarium; a Celebrity Cruises Official Cap; a Port of Astoria beverage cup; a Goonies t-shirt from the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce; a New Northwest Broadcasters Radio Station t-shirt; and a Red Lion Hotels & Inns canned lion stuffed animal. Brandon and his father had taken a picture of the Mercury arriving at the Port of Astoria. He presented the framed photo to the captain during his time aboard the ship.
